Met After the Last Sky presenteert Anouar Brahem in Flagey een nieuw album dat even poëtisch als urgent klinkt. Acht jaar na Blue Maqams vervolgt de Tunesische oedspeler zijn muzikale zoektocht tussen Arabische tradities en jazz. Voor dit project omringt hij zich met drie gelijkgestemde muzikale avonturiers: pianist Django Bates, celliste Anja Lechner en bassist Mats Eilertsen. De titel van zijn nieuwe album ontleent Brahem aan een vers van de Palestijnse dichter Mahmoud Darwish: “Waar vliegen de vogels voorbij de laatste hemel?”  Die vraag vertaalt zich in een kwetsbare maar intense muzikale conversatie, gedragen door wederzijds vertrouwen. In een wereld getekend door verdeeldheid en geweld is Brahems muziek zowel een toevluchtsoord als een vorm van verzet.

Huit ans après Blue Maqams, le joueur de oud tunisien poursuit sa quête musicale à la croisée des traditions arabes et du jazz. Pour ce projet, il s’entoure de trois musiciens aventuriers partageant la même sensibilité : le pianiste Django Bates, la violoncelliste Anja Lechner et le contrebassiste Mats Eilertsen. Le titre de ce nouvel album est emprunté à un vers du poète palestinien Mahmoud Darwish : « Où partent les oiseaux, après le dernier ciel ? » Cette question se transforme en une conversation musicale à la fois fragile et intense, portée par une confiance mutuelle. Dans un monde marqué par la division et la violence, la musique de Brahem est à la fois un refuge et une forme de résistance.

With After the Last Sky, Anouar Brahem presents at Flagey a new album that sounds as poetic as it is urgent. Eight years after Blue Maqams, the Tunisian oud player continues his musical journey between Arab traditions and jazz. For this project, he surrounds himself with three like-minded musical adventurers: pianist Django Bates, cellist Anja Lechner, and bassist Mats Eilertsen. The title of his new album is drawn from a line by the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish: “Where do the birds fly after the last sky?” This question unfolds into a fragile yet intense musical conversation, carried by mutual trust. In a world marked by division and violence, Brahem’s music is both a sanctuary and a form of resistance.
